Find the Right Medication Without the Guesswork

At LÉVO, we offer genomic testing to help us understand exactly how your body processes different medications, allowing us to build a precise, personalized treatment plan that works from the very start.

You Shouldn't Have to Guess Your Way to the Right Medication

Trying one medication after another, dealing with disruptive side effects, waiting weeks to see if something works, and then having to start all over again—it’s an exhausting cycle. While this trial-and-error process has been the historical norm in psychiatric care, it doesn’t have to be your experience.

At LÉVO, we utilize pharmacogenomic testing to bring more objective information into your treatment process, reducing the guesswork and helping you feel better, sooner.

What Is Genomic Testing?

Genomic testing is the study of how your unique genes affect your response to medications. Everyone metabolizes medications differently based on their specific genetic variation. Because of this, two people taking the same dose of the same medication can have entirely different responses.

Pharmacogenomic testing looks at specific genes involved in processing psychiatric medications and reports back on how you may respond to them. Keep in mind that this test does not diagnose any mental health condition. It gives your provider valuable additional information to consider alongside your complete clinical picture.

How Genomic Testing Works

We make the testing process as seamless as possible. Here’s what to expect:

1. Initial Assessment

You begin with a comprehensive 60-minute evaluation with a LÉVO provider to discuss your overall health and experiences. Genomic testing is only ordered after your provider determines it would be a useful tool for your specific situation.

2. Provider Orders the Kit

If appropriate, your provider will order a testing kit. The DNA kits and results are provided and run by GeneSight.

3. Simple Cheek Swab

The test only requires a quick, painless cheek swab to collect your DNA.

4. Sample Mailed

Your sample is securely mailed directly to the GeneSight lab for analysis.

5. Results Delivered

The lab analyzes your sample and sends the detailed results back to your provider. This report includes a list of medications and how they may interact with particular genes.

6. Follow-Up Consultation

Your LÉVO provider reviews the results with you in detail, discussing exactly what they mean for your treatment plan.

What the Test Analyzes

Genomic testing analyzes genetic markers that influence how your body processes and responds to a wide range of psychiatric medications, including those commonly used for depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and PTSD.

The categorized report shows which medications are likely to be processed normally, which might require dose adjustments, and which may carry a higher risk of side effects. The test also analyzes the MTHFR gene, which codes for the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase enzyme, which has variants linked to depression, bipolar disorder, and anxiety.

Ultimately, this report is one crucial input among many. Your provider will use it alongside your medical history, current symptoms, and overall health goals to determine the best treatment plan.

Who Benefits From Pharmacogenomic Testing?

This specialized testing is particularly beneficial if:

  • You’ve tried two or more psychiatric medications without meaningful improvement.

  • You’ve experienced significant or intolerable side effects from past medications.

  • You have a family history of poor responses to psychiatric medications.

  • You’re considering starting a new medication and want more information before beginning.

  • You have a complex medication regimen and want to understand potential interactions.

  • You’ve struggled with finding the right dose for your current treatment.
